About me:

Hello, my name is Kayleigh (most people call me Kay) and I absolutely love working with children and young people in all capacities, as I feel that in nurturing children’s wellbeing, learning and development, I am also nurturing a sense of pride and purpose in myself. In my spare time I love arts and crafts, reading and going to the theatre, and I like to incorporate these hobbies within childcare roles as I find that they’ve encouraged creativity and spontaneity within me that children enjoy. Whilst I am not babysitting, I work as a Teaching Assistant in a Special School with children and young people who have a diagnosis of autism, learning disabilities or mental health issues, and I also have experience of working and volunteering in mainstream schools.

My Childcare experience:

I have volunteered in day nurseries, nursery schools and mainstream primary schools, and currently work in a Special School for children with multiple needs including autism, ADHD and social and emotional needs. Over the years, my responsibilities have included planning and delivering age-appropriate and stimulating activities that are also appropriate for the child’s developmental stage and interests, in order to spark their curiosity and nurture their learning and personal development. I have also had extensive experience of working closely with parents, carers and other professionals such as Qualified Teachers, Play Therapists and Speech & Language Therapists and I use what I have learned within these professional relationships in all work I do with children, in order to enhance their opportunities.

What do you enjoy most about working with children?

I thoroughly enjoy creating enjoyable memories for the children, of playing, learning and forming healthy professional relationships that enable them to explore the social world outside of their families, whilst feeling valued, respected and safe. Every single child is unique and I love being a part of their earliest experiences, helping them learn about themselves and their place in the world, and using my energetic and creative nature to the full, whether it’s by chasing children around the garden and having a water fight, singing and dancing around the living room, or getting stuck in with messy sensory play or arts and crafts. I find that when working with children I am my best self: whilst I am responsible and reliable, I also find that children bring out the ‘kid’ in you, and help you look at the world from a new perspective.
