About me:

Hello my name is Jaime and I am 26 years old. I am a Horticulture teacher for ASD college students and my passion in life is gardening. I am from New Zealand and love all things outdoors and I am currently enjoying travelling around Europe and experiencing new cultures, landscapes and plants haha. I have been babysitting children since I was younger than sixteen and have had multiple long term nanny roles that I have developed amazing relationships with the families and still catch up with. I have grown up looking after kids from newborns to 8+ and have experience cooking nutrient dense meals for little ones. I also love dogs so a furry little friend is always a bonus!!

My Childcare experience:

Over the past year, I have gained invaluable experience working in both a mainstream primary school and a Special Educational Needs (SEN) college. In both settings, I had the privilege of supporting autistic students, helping them navigate their educational and social environments with tailored approaches designed to meet their individual needs.

At the mainstream primary school, my role involved assisting with classroom activities, adapting learning materials to suit varying abilities, and fostering an inclusive atmosphere where every child felt supported and valued. I worked closely with teachers, parents, and support staff to implement individualised strategies, ensuring that the autistic students under my care could fully engage with their education.

In the SEN college, I undertook more specialised responsibilities, including helping students develop essential life skills, providing one-to-one support during lessons, and facilitating social interactions to build confidence and independence. My time at the college enhanced my understanding of autism spectrum conditions and strengthened my ability to create a nurturing and empathetic environment for young people with diverse needs.

Although I am an unqualified teacher, I bring a wealth of childcare experience, having started babysitting in New Zealand at the age of sixteen. This early involvement in childcare instilled in me a passion for working with children and young people, supporting their growth and development in both educational and personal settings.

These experiences have not only reinforced my commitment to supporting young people but also equipped me with the practical skills, patience, and creativity required to make a meaningful difference in their lives.

What do you enjoy most about working with children?

I love watching them explore and be curious about new things and seeing how beautiful the world is through their eyes. I love nature so love getting kids outside and seeing them use their imaginations.
