About me:

Hi! My name is Nia - I am a student studying Classical Ballet and I have been teaching baby ballet for a couple of years now. I grew up in Wimbledon, London with two siblings and some of my hobbies are dancing, yoga, reading and visiting art galleries. I love working with kids and I definitely will carry on working with them for a long time, either as a dance teacher or a nanny. I grew up with a nanny I absolutely adored and this is what made me want to nanny as an adult. I have so many fond memories of her! I love working with kids because I love seeing how they develop and grow into little adults over time! Teaching Baby ballet is what really made me want to work with kids for the rest of my life. When you see how motivated they are to get something right, and even seeing them be so kind to one another without asking, makes you feel really accomplished as a teacher. Also, some of the kids I used to babysit told me they loved the stories I make up and that I should write a physical book for them - so I did! A really short one ofc but they loved it. With the kids at baby ballet, we do all sorts of activities ranging from dancing and singing to games, outdoor play and crafts. When I would babysit, I would often read the kids bedtime stories or we would have “discos” in the daytime (I would bring a disco light, a speaker and some props!) which the kids always loved. I would say my main superpower is my imagination when it comes to working with kids - they love it when I make up stories about them and have them act them out. Additionally, I take playtime very seriously, I throw myself in completely and the kids love it. Being a bit silly sometimes and having a good laugh with the kids too is good for the brain I think. Alongside working, in my free time I love to dance, take yoga classes, go to museums and hang out with my friends!

My Childcare experience:

I started as a baby ballet teaching assistant - Worked as a baby ballet teacher ages 2/5 with company Petite Performers UK - Led holiday camps ages 2/7 with Petite Performers uk; supervised and led games, acting and singing, helped with snack and lunch, supervised toilet trips and changes when accidents happen - Casual babysitting since I was sixteen for neighbours and family - Worked as a full time nanny for the summer (two kids aged 5 and 7) with Koru Kids

What do you enjoy most about working with children?

I feel I connect very naturally with kids. I have a big imagination and i’m not afraid to get a bit silly and have a lot of fun!
